Snapping during Golden Hour

Yesterday, I decided not to spend my weekends on home and watch all my tv drama serials. So I went out to catch the Golden Hour..

What is Golden Hour? (In terms of photography)

In photography, the golden hour (sometimes known as magic hour, especially in cinematography) is the first and last hour of sunlight during the day.^[1] when a specific photographic effect is achieved due to the quality of the light.

I know that photos taken during this hour can have very nice lighting effect. So I venture into Botanic Garden and do some snapping.

Saturday at Botanic Garden is super crowded. There are wedding functions going on, SSO having some kind of musical performance  tourist visiting the garden, families having picnic at the fields, newlywed couples having their pre wedding photos taken and some friendship and families photoshoot.

So I walk around, trying to capture some nice photos. All photos taken with Canon Eos 1000D + 50mm f1.8 lens.

So here are my shots.

I didn't managed to walk around the whole botanic garden cause I went there abit late. Almost 5 plus when the sun is going down real fast.

But I will  drop by again to snap more photos with a better lens!

Testing... Trying..

Well, many ppl will know that having a hobby like photography is a real expensive hobby.
Just a mid level DSLR body alone, can cost you $1K.. This hasn't add up to lens, dry cabby, tripod and other accessories. All in all, the cost can easily come up to at least 2K plus or even higher. Depending on what type of lens you're going to purchase.

I'm happy with my Eos 1000D with my kit lens + 50mm f1.8 prime and a zoom lens 55-250mm which I'm selling it away as I seldom use such long zoom lens.

So which so many lens out there, how to do know which is the one that's your staple lens? About an year ago, I chance upon this camera rental van while i was out having lunch. Spark my interest. Remember the company name and google it.

Apparently this company rents photography equipments. All types of camera body, lenses and accessories.
At that time, I wasn't holding to any DSLR and wanted a feel of how it is to shoot.. So i rented a 450D + 17-50mm lens to Sentosa with my gal friend. I had fun shooting, with many trial and error... and finally i purchased my own DSLR before my USA trip last year.

Still occasionally, I would rent lens from this company to try out. And during New Year they were having promotion. 50% off. So i took the chance to rent 1 lens which I've been dying to try out. Canon 24-70mm lens. This is a heavy weight lens. Not quite suitable for my camera body. Hmm... I'm very happy with the photos that i took but i won't purchase this lens unless I'm holding a 5DM2. If not, forget it. Hahah

So here are some shots I love that I took with this lens.

I have always like f2.8 lens... cos it's a much faster lens than my kit lens. Really hoping to purchase the Tamron 17-50mm lens. Maybe this June?

I hope in this year 2012, I can improve my photography skills. I totally enjoy the process of shooting and capture precious memories.

More of danbo...

I'm still looking to purchase the bigger size danbo... Cos somehow both my bf and I like to think they both danbo and mini danbo are quite resemblance in us. Especially the height and the "stone" expression.

Though it may be quite costly to purchase these so called collector's item but to think again, im sure it will be cost effective. Because I would want to use these danbos as my wedding photo theme. Hehehehe

I got inspired when i see one of the couple's pre wedding photos on a photographer's website.

Photography : Light trails..

I've been wanting to try long exposure shots for the longest time. Though i've been expose to this before but never ever had to chance to really try and play with the setting and all (because there's the one irritating person who would do all the settings and i can only stand next to this person and watch). 

But somehow i'm glad that i managed to take a couple of shots. Not like the ones that i imagine but i believe with more practise, i will get better!

And here's my take on long exposure...

Somehow i can't quite grasp the correct exposure.. Some of my shots seems alright and some seems over expose. 

Well... im going to find time to practice again! 

Changi Village - Revisit!

At my previous post on Changi Boardwalk, i mention that i'm going to revist Changi Village to capture sunset....

Hmmm, well i didn't managed to capture any sunset cos the weather is simply too hot for us to wait till evening time. 

So we walk around, snap a few photos here and there. Ate the famous food there.... and quickly make our way to Tampines Mall! Need to hide in air-con places.

Dear's favourite - Fried Carrot Cake!

After our escape from Changi Village, we went to Tampines mall and i bought Garretts Popcorn which i've been wanting to try ever since they are in Singapore.
And just nice they just open a new store in Tampines Mall... Thought its quite costly for a small pack of popcorn but i still prefer the kettle corn that i ate in San Francisco.

After the hot weather and non windy day... we ended the day with a happy face and vow to catch sunset soon at Changi Village!
